Creating awareness about searching Green technologies with the Global Patent Index and complementary services

1

The European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC), the European Patent Office (EPO), the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I) in Kolkata, and the CII-APTDC in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, are organising a one day seminar in three cities on 'Searching green technologies with Global Patent Index and complementary services.'

In the current scenario, global economies are increasingly turning towards clean energy sources as an answer to the environmental, political, and social problems which are linked to the use of fossil fuel. This has led to a boom in the clean technology sector. The European Patent Office (EPO) has been working extensively towards development of an extensive, worldwide searchable database of green technologies. It has developed a dedicated classification scheme for clean energy technologies that provides for the identification of new and existing technologies, clean tech companies and rights holders. The free online search facilities provided by EPO such as Espacenet as well as advanced patent search facilities such as Global Patent Index (GPI) are ideal search tools for mining this database as well as global patent information more generally.

This seminar will introduce participants to an online Patent database on green technologies and search tools provided by European Patent Office for mining patent information beneficial for identifying technologies that can have potential to be transferred into India. With this background, the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC), the European Patent Office (EPO), the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I) in Kolkata, and the CII-APTDC in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, are organising a one day seminar in three cities on 'Searching green technologies with Global Patent Index and complementary services.' The event will be held on:

26th May 2014, Hotel Marigold, Hyderabad
28th May 2014, Hotel Fortune Park JP Celestial, Bengaluru
30th May 2014, Park Hotel, Kolkata

Objectives

a. Introduce the Global Patent Index (GPI) & Espacenet in India.
b. Facilitate an exchange of information between India and Europe on green and clean technologies.
c. Facilitate searching of green technologies for technology collaboration.
d. Spreading awareness on available green technologies from Europe for collaboration, and thereby reducing carbon footprints globally.

Why should you attend?

Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of patent information products such as the Global Patent Index (GPI), Espacenet and its functionalities. A thorough insight into the efficient use of GPI will be given to become familiar with its features such as identifying assignees, and technologies that can be transferred into India. This seminar will also assist stakeholders in searching and identifying technologies of interest using GPI and Espacenet.

Who should attend?

Indian industry, MSMEs, R&D institutes, inventors, universities, IP managers, academia, law firms, IP executives, IP attorneys, in-house legal counsel, representatives from government agencies, including IP offices, business associations, chambers of commerce and other groups working on innovations in clean and green technologies will also find the seminar useful.

Faculty

Experts and Officials from the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC).

The session will include

• Introduction to Green Technologies & its classification: Overview of Y section in CPC.
• Searching green technology in Global Patent Index (GPI).
• Complementing GPI with other Patent Information resources.
