A Photo Story: Highlights from EBTC at Vibrant Gujarat 2015

World leaders and business titans converged to focus on key investment opportunities at the 7th edition of Vibrant Gujarat which took place at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 11th to 13th January 2015. Mr. Joel Fernandes (Regional Director, EBTC Mumbai) attended the Vibrant Gujarat summit and met with the European delegations and shared with them how EBTC’s value added services can catalyse their India entry strategies.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the importance of inclusive development and on India’s strengths of democracy, demographic dividend and demand. He also stressed on the opportunities of India as an ideal investment destination and deliberated on concreate actions for the ease of doing business in India.

UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon encouraged the world and business leaders to be inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. He also commended Prime Minister Modi on the smart cities initiative and vision of use of renewable energy efficiency.

When presenting to the august gathering US Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry said “The moment has never been more right to tap the incredible possibilities between the United States of America and India. We can do more together and we must do more together and we must do it faster.”

As part of the summit, there were seminars focusing on SME’s: Gearing up for Global Competitiveness, Sustainable Energy for All, Water Security, Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Invest India – Financing for Future Growth, Health for All – Leveraging Technology, Innovations and Enablers, Smart Cities for Next Generation, Innovation: The Torchbearer of the 21st Century to name a few. There were also country seminars.

A high-level delegation from Poland led by their Deputy Prime Minister, Janusz Piechocinski showed interest to develop bilateral relations with Gujarat in energy, mining, agro processing and pharmaceutical sectors. He also announced the “Go to India” campaign his government has launched encouraging Polish companies to focus on India as a business destination. The Polish delegation was organised by EBTC’s partner the Polish Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Netherland’s Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Mr. Simon Smits was accompanied by a delegation of over 70 companies. He shared that the Dutch companies are not only contributing in the Make in India campaign but also working towards Research-in-Gujarat and Design-in-Gujarat programmes. Mr. Smits discussed about mutual interest in various sectors like water management, seed production and agro-logistics.

The summit was attended by 25000 delegates from over 110 countries, 8 partner countries supported the summit by bringing down delegations (Netherlands, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Japan and USA) and 21000 MOU’s were signed leading to €3.4 billion in investments.
