The Fraunhofer IFF optimizes production facilities, production systems and logistics networks for highly complex production networks. The Magdeburg Fraunhofer Institute is a leading producer of RFID and telematics solutions for the identification, monitoring and control of flows of goods. Its LogMotionLab is one of Europe's best equipped RFID labs for the development, testing and certification of typical industry applications. Intelligent monitoring solutions, distributed storage of information on objects and the linkage of information flows and flows of goods make tamper-proof identification of objects, secure chains of goods and their complete documentation possible.

In the field of automation, the Fraunhofer IFF has extensive expertise in the development of automated and robotic systems. Specializations are service robots for inspection and cleaning, automated solutions for the life science, manufacturing and logistics sectors and robotics for entertainment and training. In order to advance its automation concepts, the Fraunhofer IFF produces measuring and inspection systems and integrates sensor systems, optical measuring systems and industrial imaging in manufacturing processes. Sensor systems and data acquisition and processing systems are the tool for digitally mapping real parameters and thus constitute a prerequisite to automated processes.

An expansion of the Fraunhofer IFF, the Virtual Development and Training Centre VDTC specializes in the latest virtual reality technologies for applications in industry. It performs applied research in the field of virtual engineering to plan, test and operate technical systems. Fraunhofer researchers develop digital solutions for every stage of the process chain. Interest is centered on the integrated digital product from the initial idea to development, manufacturing and sales up through commissioning and operation. Individual corporate and work environments can be rendered there-dimensionally as desired, whether in the CAVE, a multisided projection room or the Elbe Dom, a large 360 degree projection system which uses sophisticated laser technology to represent virtual environments with impressive realism on a an enormous surface of over 320 m2.
